Using Data

Trying to understand the Zip Code issue

Please bear with me, I'm new to this.

I have been looking for a way to get Zip+4 demographics. The Census position is that they don't provide that but they point to the shapefiles.

I have 2 questions:

1. Can someone simplify whether or not these shapefiles are useful or if the data I want is simply not available here? Example: what is the Male-Female ratio in 68198-9550?

2. What are other companies offering when they charge between $1000 to $30,000 to provide zip+4 demographics?

Since the average number of households in a Zip+4 is between four and five, the US Census Bureau won't provide data at that level, because of confidentiality concerns.

As a side note, I know that personally, my household would be identified by my Zip+4 address, since it is the only one with that identifier.

Understood! That helps a lot. I live in a major metro area and forgot that the rest of the country isn't as densely populated as we are with our apartment complexes and 90-story buildings.

      Thanks so much!
